New feature: Virtual Gift Shop

Posted Date: 31 Oct 2009      Posted By: Tony John      Member Level: Diamond     Points: 1   Responses: 23

We have added a new social feature: Now you can buy and send virtual gifts to your dotnetspider friends. Take a look at our Virtual Gift Shop

Each virtual gift have different prices. When you send the gift, points equal to the price of the gift will be deducted from your account. The member who receive the gift will get equivalent number of points.

Editors can send virtual gifts for free, with some limitations.

When a gift is sent to a member, he will be notified by email.

So far, we have added only very few gifts in our gift shop. Some senior editors are authorized to add more gifts and soon we will stock our shop with 100s of cool gifts.

Rules:

1. The maximum points a member can earn from received gifts is limited to 500 in 30 days. When member receive a gift, if his points earned from gifts in last 30 days is more than 500, he will still receive the gift, but no points will be earned. However, the sender will still lose the points equal to the value of the gift.

2. Editors CANNOT send unlimited free gifts. Each editor is given 250 gift credits by default. This gift credits is not included in the total points of the editor. When an editor sends a gift, points will be deducted from this gift credits. If the gift credits goes too low and there are not sufficient credits to send a gift, points will be deducted from the actual points of the editor.

If editors are using the free gift credits appropriately, then editors can request additional gifts credits and webmaster can give additional gift credits to editors.

Editors are expected to use the gift credits wisely to encourage eligible members and not to make their friends happy.

Senior editors are given 2500 free gift credits.

3. Members cannot send gifts to themselves.

Please post your feedback about this new feature.

Regards,
Tony John

This is really interesting.

As usual, some question from me -
- What is the relevance of 'discount' ?
- Can we have a customized gift feature, where the member specifies the type and points ?
- Would gifts received be seen in the profiles 'Gifts and contributions' page ?
- Can you add a 'Thank you' gift worth 5/10 points to the current gift list? I promise I will send you one if you add it :)

Kind regards,
ABitSmart

Hi Tony,
I agree with the point Anil kumar pandey mentioned. We need to think on this point. No one will be ready for loosing their points. I am having one request, we can have restriction like one can send this much opf gift per month. If he crossed the limit we can block the acess to gift, until the points getting credited to his account.
