Ananth,
Different minds have different opinion. Yes, I agree with Abit both have their individual identity but I marked my words as :
Firstly, PHP and .Net both are separate languages and having their individual identity.
In New PHP versions you can only have the idea about Web-Programming with Layered architectures but it wouldn't help you in .Net besides your programming skills.
Secondly,As I am Microsoft Savy guy and as a Mad for Microsoft technologies, I always prefer you to .Net
But, frankly, go and take a look into mirror and examine your self then asked the same question from you whats you need.
Lastly, I always prefer .Net

if you r working on php and want to switch in .NET then you can easily switch in to this technology...and if you belongs to NCR(delhi region) then .NET is a good choice...
