Preventing from activex

i have following scenario
i want to create a web application in which
1)option of compatible finger prints readers that over application suuports is listed.when user click on one option. what it happens in activex that a prompt appear (just like flash and media players in many sites)that install this first.
i do not want it.i need such a better solution.
just like in ajax i feels some low over head
xbaps or wpf control??

ActiveX technology got it's on advantages and disadvantages. Currently in .Net I don't think there is no alternative for activeX. Else you may need to use Java or Flash.
