Microsoft Dynamics is an attempt by Microsoft to cater to the ERP market. The main products in the platform are:
- Microsoft Dyanamics CRM - This product is in direct competetion with Seibel CRM. However it does not have direct CTI integration, for that we have to use Microsoft Contact Centre Framework. The target market as of now is the SMB segment. A typical implementation of Microsoft CRM starts from 5lacs INR onwards.
- Microsoft Great Plains - This is a SMB segment ERP for users migrating from Accounting Packages to small ERPs. But this product is mainly supported in Americas and Europe
- Microsoft Navision - This is again another SMB segment ERP but higher than Great Plains. This typically has Fiance, Manufacturing and Supply Chain Manangement
- Microsoft Axapta - This is targettted to the mid market ERP

Hello,
Security Concepts
Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 provides a security system that manages user access to the objects and data in your database. Because this database is stored in SQL Server, the Microsoft Dynamics NAV security system and the SQL Server security system work together to help ensure that only authorized users can gain access to the information in the database.
When a user creates a Microsoft Dynamics NAV database, that user is automatically given the SUPER user role in the Microsoft Dynamics NAV security system. This allows at least one user who can create additional users and assign appropriate roles to them. For more information, see First User Automatically Has SUPER Role.
The Microsoft Dynamics NAV security system allows you to control which objects, such as tables, that each individual user can access within each database. It also allows you to specify which particular records or information that is stored in these tables that each user is allowed to access. For more information, see "Limiting Access to Specific Database Entries" in Customizing Security. You can manage user access at both the table or record level.
Customizing Security
Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 provides options for limiting and monitoring user access to the database. You can find detailed discussions of these options in "Installation and System Management: SQL Server Option for the C/SIDE Client" (w1w1isql.pdf). This manual, which is available from the Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0 Developer and Installation Guides page in the Microsoft Download Center, was created for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0 but is still relevant for background information on many security processes and concepts. Security Customization Options
Use the following options to limit user access beyond the permission level: Limiting Access to Specific Database Entries
You can specify that each individual user or group can only access specific entries in the database. For example, you can limit access to the entries that relate to a specific department or project. This level of access control is known as record level security. For information on implementing record level security, see "Applying Security Filters" in w1w1isql.pdf. Time-Limited Passwords
Passwords in Microsoft Dynamics NAV do not have time limits, but you can put time limits on user IDs.
If you have the required permissions, then you can delete a user ID from the system or cancel all permissions. If deleting a user ID is too drastic a step to take, then you can specify a limited time period during which a particular user ID is allowed to post in the system. You set up this limitation in the User Setup window. For more information, see Setting Up Users. Registering User Time
You can specify that you want Microsoft Dynamics NAV to register the amount of time that each user works with a company in the database. To see the time use that has been registered, in the Classic client, click General Ledger. Click Setup, click Users, and then click User Time Registers.
To register user time, use the User Setup window. In the Classic client, click Administration, and then click Application Setup. Click Users, and then click User Setup.
To see the time use that has been registered, in the Classic client, click General Ledger. Click Setup, click Users, and then click User Time Registers.
Setting Up Users
Go to the User Setup window in the Classic client to define, on a per-user basis, periods of time during which the user is able to post, and whether Microsoft Dynamics NAV records the amount of time the user is logged on. You can also assign responsibility centers to the user.
To open the User Setup window, click Administration, Application Setup, Users, User Setup.
To set up a user, click to select an existing user, or click on a blank line and enter the ID of an existing Windows user or group in the User ID column. NoteNote
You can set up users only when an application is present in the database. Fields in the User Setup Window
The fields in the User Setup window define timeframes and other constraints for users: Field Purpose
Allow Posting From
Specifies the date on which the user is able to begin posting.
Allow Posting To
Specifies the last date on which the user can post.
Register Time
To begin registering the amount of time the user spends working on the current company, click to place a mark in this field.
Sales Resp. Ctr. Filter
Specifies the code for a responsibility center. The user is then assigned to this responsibility center. Click the AssistEdit button to the right of the field to see available responsibility centers.
The Sales responsibility center becomes the default responsibility center when the user creates new sales documents. The user only sees sales orders that are created from their responsibility center.
If you leave this field blank, the default responsibility center in Customer or Company Information (in that order of priority) is used.
Purchase Resp. Ctr. Filter
Specifies the code for a responsibility center. The user is then assigned to this responsibility center. Click the AssistEdit button to the right of the field to see available responsibility centers.
The Purchase responsibility center becomes the default responsibility center when the user creates new purchase documents. The user only sees purchase orders that are created from their responsibility center.
If you leave this field blank, the default responsibility center in Customer or Company Information (in that order of priority) is used.
Service Resp. Ctr. Filter
Specifies the code for a responsibility center. The user is then assigned to this responsibility center. Click the AssistEdit button to the right of the field to see available responsibility centers.
The Service responsibility center becomes the default responsibility center when the user creates new service documents. The user only sees service orders created from their responsibility center.

Microsoft Dynamics is a line of business software owned and developed by Microsoft though the individual products were originally created by other companies and known by various other names. Dynamics was previously known by the codename “Project Green". It replaced Microsoft Business Solutions, the company's previous business software family.
