About special characters

Hi
I entered value in textbox like #R4*8,but it throw error as

'the string pattern '%#R4*8%' is invalid'...Actually the textbox values i declared as string same as database value as Varchar

Actually what is the problem

replace any single quotes are there wit h single quote

Where it throws error after insertion to DB or some other error
could you please give that error.It is working fine in my
system
